Low Down
Singing the music of Jacques Brel and others, Camille doesn't fail to move and entertain.
Review
Camille is the star of the Spigeltent's La Clique, and has toured with the famous tent for several years with her own show La Fille Du Cirque. In her beautiful Irish lilt, she informs us that her show is a series of stories and poems set to music, and features heavily the beautiful ballads of Belgian composer Jacques Brel.
Putting her heart and soul into the music, the raven-haired temptress moves effortlessly from crying with emotion at one song, to growling like a tiger in another. Her Irish beauty and softly demure voice never fails to charm the audience, and the excellent five piece band, complete with grand piano play with a passion to match Camille's.
A consummate performer, each song is like a small play, and she has clearly worked hard to make them into real performances which move and entertain in turns.
The only disappointment was that the set had barely changed from the time I saw her two years ago - which didn't make the evening any less enjoyable, I would just have like the opportunity to see her do something new.
However, I strongly urge you to go and buy your ticket now, as the show is selling out fast, and you won't get a better musical treat at the fringe.
