Low Down
Numerous sketches that are not too rude, but are largely humourous.
Review
This is one of the better sketch comedy shows you will see on the fringe - always hit and miss affairs, Fat Tongue fortunately has slightly more hits than misses.
The team of three manage to create a wide range of well-executed characters, who are different enough to convince you that there are five or more people crammed backstage.
A nice touch is that some of the sketches have through-lines that run subtly through the show, with characters re-appearing and cross-referencing with previous sketches. Sketches range from subjects as broad as Billy Elliot in a lap-dancing competition to a penguin auditioning for Planet Earth. The contemporary pop-culture references are not overused, and are obvious enough not to alienate the audience.
Some of the sketches however did need serious paring-down, and an overlong first sketch didn’t get the show off to a great start. A few of the punch-lines could have been a little funnier or better delivered, but all in all this was an entertaining hour, to be recommended.
