Decade

DECADE – again! - at Theatre 503

23rd-27th February

By April de Angelis, David Eldridge, Fraser Grace, Richard Marsh, Rex Obano, Phil Porter, Lou Ramsden, Nimer Rashed, Amy Rosenthal and Beth Steel

Ten years. Ten writers. Ten short plays on how we’ve changed since the turn of the century…

Decade premiered at Theatre503 in January, recommended by FringeReview and selling out its run. Now it is playing again for one week in February.

Of Decade, our reviewer Pascale Straiton said ‘The analogy was unclear however, it remains curious and compelling. ..The night is well produced by Gene David Kirk and Tom Powis, with an effective dynamic running through the evening. There are some notable performances, especially Cecily Boys as the heady Head Teacher in 2001, Betty Benjamin as the charismatic racist in 2009 and Phil Brodie, who pops up five times, displaying great versatility.’

At the start of the new decade, Theatre503 presented five days of theatre looking back at the past 10 years. Created by 10 of the most dynamic voices in British theatre, each night Decade looks at every year from 2000 and asks: “is this what it felt like?”

The 503Five writers joined forces with April de Angelis, David Eldridge, Fraser Grace, Phil Porter & Amy Rosenthal, each presenting their unique comment on one year of the Noughties, directed by Paul Robinson, Tim Roseman, Gene David Kirk, Anthony Biggs, and Jessica Beck

The 503Five is a group of five, currently unproduced, playwrights selected from two hundred of the country's most exciting new undiscovered writers. As recipients of Theatre503's first ever commissioning awards, they will write for us, learn with us and inspire us. Resident with the company for a year, they are part of a bespoke programme that gives them both artistic opportunities and places writers at the heart of the decision-making process of Theatre503.
